EPA Brownfield Program is designed to empower states, tribes and their communities and other stakeholders in economic redevelopment to work together in a timely manner to prevent, assess, safely cleanup and sustainable reuse “Brownfields”

A Brownfield is a property to be used for expansion redevelopment or reuse of which may be complicated by the presence or potential presence of hazardous substance pollutant or contaminate.  EPA Brownfields Program provides financial and technical assistance for Brownfields activities through an approach based on four main goals.

  • Protecting the Environment
  • Promote Partnerships
  • Strengthening the Market Place
  • Sustaining Re-use

Service Population: 

The Brownfields Program serves all enrolled members of the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe and those within the jurisdiction of the “Tribe”

Services Offered:

  • Provide Technical assistance to the public regarding environmental issues
  • Disseminate information to the Public regarding site activities for cleanup’s


The Brownfields Program staff has been attending training seminars for environmental response activities from asbestos, Lead, Underground Storage Tanks and HazMat.  The staff is currently federally certified and is capable of handling any hazardous activity.


The Brownfields Program is in the third year of funding and is still trying to develop a Guide for implementing, monitoring and enforcing Institutional controls For the Brownfields Program.


Get the public more involved in the current environmental issues so as to maintain a clean environment on the Cheyenne River reservation.
